Just Add Ink #369

Today I’m joining in the fun over at Just Add Ink and being inspired by this gorgeous photo for the #JAI369 challenge.

The best thing about photos like this is that everyone can play along with the challenge and be inspired by different aspects of the photo. For me I was mainly inspired by the colours, then the scenery (trees, water) and lastly how the photo made me feel. I quickly wrote down the colours I felt I would use, the stamp set I would use and the texture my card would have. Quite often I think of a design or idea, forget to write it down and never ever remember it! I’m trying to get better at that.

The photo made me feel a sense of adventure and holidays, so I chose to use the hostess stamp set Dare to Dream for my card today.

The colours I chose were Emerald Envy (trees), Bermuda Bay (water), Crushed Curry (sand), Pool Party (on the balloon) and then for inspiration of the mountains I chose to use some burlap ribbon.

I’m obsessed by the new Ruffled 3D Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and chose to use this as my background to reflect trees blowing in in the wind and the waves of the water. I ran my Wink of Stella pen along the edges of the ripples to make them shimmer just a smidgen. I chose to pick up the yellow again by using the Crushed Curry Glitter Enamel Dots.

You’ve got until 10am each Wednesday to join in the weekly Just Add Ink challenge. A new challenge is posted each Friday so come on over and join the fun!

What Will You Stamp? #125 – Cool Treats

Finally I get a chance to play along with the What Will You Stamp? challenge (#wwys125) for this week. I’m a week late due to a house full of germs but I couldn’t miss the opportunity to play with the Cool Treats stamp set as it is one of my favourites. Over on the WWYS? blog, you can see all fantastic creations by the Design Team to get you inspired when using this set.

This stamp set makes me think of bright, tutti fruity colours and flavours when I look at it, so I chose to use Flirty Flamingo and Peekaboo Peach for my card today.

I chose to do some tone on tone stamping today (where you stamp the same coloured ink onto the same coloured cardstock) for the backgrounds of the card. These two colours are a match made in heaven!

I used a little bit of the gorgeous Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper to hide the join of the two pieces of cardstock and to add a little bit of bling. I used the Layering Square Framelits to cut the cardstock and then stamped the sentiment and icy poles on the insert so they peek through the square.

A super quick post from me considering I’m miles behind when the challenge actually went live! I hope you pop on over to the What Will You Stamp? blog and to see the DT creations and the awesome creations of those that have entered the challenge.

Quriky Critters & Ronald McDonald House

A little background on today’s card… Each quarter, some of my team members and I head into the Ronald McDonald House at Monash Hospital and participate in their Make-A-Meal program for which we make a 3-course dinner from the families staying at the house. We absolutely love being able to provide these families with some home cooked food during a challenging time. We also donate our cards as well for the families and staff to use, but we wanted to do more and that is how we started participating in the make-a-meal program.

Each new annual catalogue, Stampin’ Up! creates one specific stamp set, where they donate $3 from each set purchased to Ronald McDonald House Charities. To date, they have donated over 1.5 MILLION DOLLARS worldwide. AMAZING! This year’s stamp set is Sharing Sweet Thoughts found on page 233 of the annual catalogue. Unfortunately, I forgot to add it to my recent order (it was late at night!), so I’ll definitely have to add it to my next one!

Considering I forgot to order it, I had to use another stamp set for my surprise thank you cards to the team members who participate with me, so I chose my the fun Quirky Critters stamp set.

When I saw the Narwhal stamp I was SO excited. They’re amazing animals and lets be honest, you’ll probably never find another Narwhal stamp anywhere! I wanted to create an “ocean” look for the background of my card, so I used the “faux woodgrain” technique I used on the piggy and wreath cards but switched the colour tones to blues…. I think it works a treat! See for yourself…

I coloured the Narwhal in using an aqua painter and Smoky Slate ink. I added a little Wink of Stella pen to his horn to make him “shine and sparkle”.

Thanks for stopping by today. If you and your friends or work colleagues are interested in volunteering at your local Ronald McDonald House, check out their Make-a-Meal program. It really is a small commitment that can make sure a difference. You can see what some other business and community groups have been doing at the Ronald McDonald House in Monash by following their Facebook page.

Happy Crafting,

Christmas in July…

Today I’m back to spread a little bit of festive cheer! Yep, I know it’s only July but it is never too early to think about your Christmas projects as before we know it, the big red man will be here and he’ll checking his naughty or nice list… which one will you be on?

I’ve got quite a few projects for you today… some cards, a few 3D/ gift packaging items and then a scrapbooking page! I don’t get to scrapbook anywhere near as much as I used to but had a wonderful time preserving a very special memory. There are a lot of photos in my post today… so curl up on the couch with your cup of tea (or coffee or hot chocolate), relax and enjoy my projects knowing you’ve still got a few more months ahead of you to finish your Christmas shopping!

My first card today is using the cute reindeer from the new Merry Mistletoe stamp set. I can never go past a reindeer, particularly when I can add a gorgeous red glimmer nose to make him like that extra special reindeer we all know!

I stamped the reindeer in crumb cake ink and coloured over his antlers with the early espresso watercolour pencil to make them darker and to add some contrast. I also sponged around the reindeer using crumb cake ink to take away the “white edges’ from cutting him out which gave his coat a bit of contrast too. The matching red reindeer paper at the base of the card is from the new Be Merry Designer Series Paper. Great DSP for your festive projects and I loved that the reindeer is the same style/ shape as the stamp. The “merry” sentiment I created using the Labeler Alphabet stamp set and randomly stamped that on the card base in crumb cake ink (I didn’t want them to be exactly straight).

I don’t deny that I love “matching” cards and gift packaging, so I made a gorgeous treat bag to match my reindeer card. The new striped treat bags are to die for!

My next card is using my new favourite technique – faux woodgrain. You make the woodgrain background purely by using ink! I used crumb cake and soft suede for this background, like the card I made here. The new Boxwood Wreath embellishments were too good to not use on a woodgrain look card.

I used the cookie cutter punch (again!) to punch the bow in red glimmer paper and adhered them to the top of the wreaths with a small glue dot

My last card is based around the new sheet music background stamp.

I distressed the edges of the stamped very vanilla cardstock and sponged them with crumb cake ink to give them a bit of a vintage feel. I used the “Christmas wishes” sentiment from the Merry Mistletoe stamp set and embossed it in gold and combined it with the “to you” from a stamp in the Mixed Drinks stamp set.

Part of the fun for me at Christmas is watching the suspense on my boy’s faces all through December as they stare at the Christmas tree wondering what is waiting for them underneath and that is what inspired me for my next little gift box.

I made the gift box using the Stampin’ Up! Gift Box Punch board and again featured the Be Merry DSP as “ribbon” wrapped around the box. I used the new circle tab punch to create a little “clipboard” look for my “don’t peek” sign!

Lastly, I created a scrapbook page. Master INK loves meeting up with Santa every year and I can’t get enough of the amazement and mesmerising look he gives him… like he just can’t believe he is touching Santa!

I used the ruffled dynamic textured impressions embossing folder to create the effect of Santa’s beard down the side of the page. This adds great texture to the page.

Phew! Told you it was a big post with lots of different techniques. Thanks for stopping by today and I hope I’ve inspired you to get your “Santa hat” on and start thinking about your Christmas cards and projects.

Fidget Spinner Card

I’m back today with a super cool, very “in” card (and quick post!) for all those kids (and adults) obsessed by…. the fidget spinner! As a parent, whilst they are not my worst nightmare, it puzzles me how toys become a “craze” for kids. How does it happen? And how can it happen so quickly? One minute they don’t exist and then pow, somehow I have 4 different fidget spinners in my house!

Where possible, I like to make interactive card’s for Master INK’s friends and today’s card is no exception. I got the awesome tutorial from Caroline Bennie to create this interactive fidget spinner card! Yes, it actually spins!!!!

The fidget spinner was made using punches as you’ll see in Caroline’s tutorial. It is just a clever, genius idea!

Now watch it spin…

I have no doubt this is not the last time I will be making one of these cards! You should give it a go too!

What Will You Stamp? #123 – Happy Birthday Gorgeous

Yay! Today I get to play along with the amazingly talented ladies from the What Will You Stamp? Design Team for #wwys123. I’ve had a few weeks off from the team as time escaped me and I didn’t have the stamp sets featured, but I’m back and looking at the upcoming schedule, I should be around more often.

Today we’re showcasing the beautiful Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set. I love so much about this stamp set; the flowers, the balloons, the fonts of the sentiments, I was very excited to use it.. I’m trying my best to use products in my cupboard that I haven’t touched and the Gift Bag Punch Board is something I haven’t used, so I’ve given that a whirl for today’s project too!

I’ve used the amazing new bright in- colour Lemon Lime Twist and paired that with Peekaboo Peach and Flirty Flamingo to bring today’s projects to life.

Now… let’s see how awesome they look together!

To get the formation of the balloons on the card, I first stamped them in crumb cake ink on my card base so that they were evenly spaced in a pattern I liked. I then stamped all the coloured balloons on cardstock using the same coloured ink and punched them out using the balloon punch (a favourite product of mine). To give the card a bit of “pop”, I placed each coloured balloon on a stampin’ dimensional and adhered it to the card front. I played around a little bit with the placement of the colours till I found an arrangement I was happy with.

The gift bag was made using the Gift Bag Punch Board. It was so quick and easy, I’ll definitely be using it more in the future. Check out this great video from Meg at Lovenstamps to see how easy it is to use! And the best bit is, you can make lots of different bags in different sizes! Perfect for those last minute gifts you need to give. I punched a small hole in the top of both sides and tied it off with the gorgeous new Lemon Lime Twist Ombre Ribbon – it is to die for!

Thanks for stopping by! Don’t forget to pop over to the the WWYS? Blog to see all the creations this week from the team! It is such a fun stamp set… if you don’t have this stamp set on your wish list already, I’ll be surprised if you don’t after today!

Global Design Project #093

Good Morning to you on this fresh Sunday morning in Melbourne! When I woke this morning it was -4.0 degrees! Winter has really hit us this weekend so I was excited to play along with the Global Design Project and use their bright, summery colour combination for #GDP093.

I’ve made a notecard for my project today using the gorgeous “Quirky Critters” stamp set from new annual Stampin’ Up! catalogue. At first it didn’t catch my eye but on my many looks through the catalogue I kept coming back to it and it hasn’t disappointed me yet!

For a self-proclaimed “non-colourer” this an interesting choice of stamp set, but funnily enough of late, I’m finding colouring very therapeutic and like anything, the more you do it, the more comfortable you become with it!

I chose to colour the bird on shimmery white cardstock using an Aqua Painter with Pool Party ink for his body and Lemon Lime Twist for his funky hair-do and chest. I really struggled to add the Berry Burst aspect to him but never fear, a small heart punch added the little bit I needed to make him pop! I punched the heart form the Cookie Cutter punch.

I can’t wait to use this set more and more! I’ve got so many ideas for it! If you’re looking for inspiration not just for this set, pop on over the to the Global Design Project page and see all the entries for the #GDP093 colour challenge. There is plenty there for you to see and be inspired by! I’m off to one of my team member’s catalogue launches now, can’t wait to be inspired there!
