TGIF Challenge #91 – Love

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, this TGIF challenge (#tgifc91) was a great chance to get ahead on another card in my stash. Hubby and I don’t normally acknowledge Valentine’s Day but sometimes I like to mix it up and surprise him. Yes, he’s seen the card as I created it but he’ll forget about it by the time Valentine’s Day actually comes around.

The challenge inspiration was this cute little pic and if you click on the image below, it will take you to the challenge site and show you all the gorgeous creations the design team created to inspire us.

I decided to create my own DSP (again) for this challenge and then added a few layers to this card to give it plenty of texture and love (pun intended!). I love the combination of the 4 colours; Real Red, Melon Mambo, Blushing Bride and Smoky Slate.

I randomly stamped the heart stamp from the Endless Thanks stamp set it in Real Red, Melon Mambo and Blushing Bride on the whisper white cardstock. I then added the word “love” from the Thoughtful Banners stamp set in smoky slate to create my patterned background. I used the same “love” word to stamp on the Real Red circle in Real Red ink. I didn’t want this to take away from the background so by stamping in the same colour, it just adds a subtle layer to the card.

The “Love you much” stamp is from my new favourite stamp set in the Occasions catalogue, Iconic Occasions. It is such a versatile stamp set, I am using it on everything!

I finished off the card with some whisper white baker’s twine and some Real Red, Melon Mambo and Silver Glimmer hearts (this is a retired punch that I AGAIN can’t get rid off, just like the banner punch on this card).

Will you surprise a loved one this Valentine’s Day with a card? Or it doesn’t have to be on Valentine’s Day… a surprise card is fabulous any day of the year!

Happy Crafting,

P.S. One can only laugh too! I was so busy creating at my desk, I forgot to take the photos of the card before the challenge ended! Hence I missed the official challenge, but I still love my card. LOL!

WWYS Challenge #100/ Number of Years

One could possibly think that I was doing as much crafting as I can before I return to work in a few weeks… and you may be correct. However, at the moment, my mojo is just flowing so I’m trying to “go with it” and create as much as I can whilst I’m enjoying it so much.

I found another challenge to participate in, thanks to my good friend Dena from The Creativity Cave who is on the Design Team for What Will You Stamp. The challenge for this week from #WWYS100 is to use the Stampin’ Up! stamp set, Number of Years.

Now the obvious (well I think) choice when using this stamp set, would be to use the numbers, however I don’t have any one with a significant number birthday coming up (that it was a bit random to put 29 or 44 on a card!), so I decided to use one of the accent stamps in the set for my card today. I also used the very cool  new embossing Celebrations Due Textured Embossing folders which I completely missed the first few times I read the catalogue, but once I saw that gorgeous script word “celebrate” I knew I had to have them.

I embossed my whisper white cardstock first and then proceeded to stamp the cardstock using Elegant Eggplant and Pool Party ink. I randomly stamped the dots, so there is definitely no “right or wrong” if you want to recreate this card. A few metallic sequins added for a bit of bling, some whisper white baker’s twine for some texture and you’re nearly done. I was sneaky with this card and used the retired little banner punch. I normally get rid of all my stock once it retires but I can’t part with this. It is just too cute and the perfect size for cards!

Thanks for stopping by today. I’d love to be able to say that each week I’ll be able to post this much, but when I return to work I think my available crafting hours may just disappear… but you never know…. so stay tuned!

Happy Crafting,

Just Add Ink #343

There are so many fantastic card challenges around, that unless I quit my day job I could never complete them all. However, as I’ve said before, they provide you with great inspiration and ideas to get yourself stamping and crafting.

My project today is for the Just Add Ink #343 challenge (#JAI343) – “just add something pop up or interactive”. Be sure to check out the blog hop that the the JAI ladies have participated in to show off their awesome projects.

I absolutely LOVE the card I have to show you today. I’ve put off making a card like this because I thought it was “too hard” but O…M…G!!! it is sooooooooooo easy once you know the secret trick! I can now make these cards with my eyes shut (well not really, I just don’t need a tutorial).

I chose to use the awesome No Bones About It stamp set featuring the cool two step dinosaur stamps. It looks simple on the outside, but just you wait!

Check out the quick video below to see how my very simple card becomes interactive and full of life!

And in case you missed the “magic” here it is again….

I hope you enjoyed my project today! I’m thoroughly enjoying sharing more projects with you this year! Fingers crossed my mojo stays around!

Happy Crafting

Global Design Project #070

Can you believe it? 2 blog posts within 24 hours! It does help that I participated in some card challenges over the weekend and they all close within the next day or so meaning I’ve got to get them up and published on the blog!

Today’s card is for the Global Design Project #070 (#GDP070) and it is based on a sketch challenge. It is a super versatile sketch that anyone can use to create their project.

I needed to create some cards over the weekend and found the challenges a great place to start to get the mojo going. My card today is a very simple card using some of the new Falling in Love Designer Series Paper and the new hostess stamp set Iconic Occasions (that was featured in my Top 5 Occasions Catalogue products, read more about it here).

I repeatedly stamped the “Thinking of You” stamp across the Very Vanilla cardstock using Sahara Sand and Soft Sky ink to match my card base and the DSP. The little “you” thinking bubble is also from the Iconic Occasions stamp set and I find it the sweetest little addition to any project to let someone know you are thinking of them.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my project today. Don’t forget to pop on over to the Global Design Project and check out their challenges. They are a great place for you to find inspiration.

Happy Crafting,

Colour INKspiration Challenge #001

I am so excited to bring you today’s blog post for numerous reasons:

  1. It means I have regularly blogged (within 10 days of my last post!)
  2. I have entered a challenge for this card
  3. I have used a stamp set I have had for 18 months and NEVER used
  4. I did colouring on my card and I am not a huge fan of colouring (purely because I’m not good at it!)
  5. I made a floral card!!!

WOW! That actually is a lot of reasons. lol!

My card today is an entry to the Colour Inspiration Challenge #001 which is a new Facebook group inspiring crafters each fortnight with a different colour challenge using Stampin’ Up! products. It has been loads of fun seeing everyone’s creations. There is so much talent out there and so many different ideas, it is a great place if you’re looking for inspiration. You don’t have to be a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator to join… you just have to use Stampin’ Up! products in your creations. Click here and request to join so you can see what everyone has been creating. You don’t need to participate in the challenges to be a part of the group.

This fortnight was the first official challenge of the group and there were 6 colours available (you must used 3) inspired by this picture to use in your project:

I chose to use 5 of the colours available; Blushing Bride, Mint Macaron, Sweet Sugarplum, So Saffron and Peekaboo Peach. I just couldn’t work Tempting Turquoise in to my card.

I used the Stampin’ Up! blender pens to “pick up” colour off the lid of my ink pads and then coloured the stamp, adding more ink to areas of the stamp that I wanted to be darker or deeper and then less ink on the areas such as the ends of the petals. I then added small pearl embellishments to the middle of some of the flowers to add some texture to the card. With the detail and number of flowers, I chose a simple sentiment to finish off the card and then mounted it on Mint Macaron and Blushing Bride cardstock.

This card is so not my usual style, but I thoroughly enjoyed creating it to participate in the challenge. It was great to get out of my comfort zone and create “just for fun”. I’m looking forward to the next challenge already!

Top 5 Occasions Catalogue Products

Hello!

Today I’m giving you a quick run down on my top 5 products from the new Stampin’ Up! Occasions catalogue. I’ve been creating this week so there are plenty of blog posts to come, it is just a gloomy, wet day in Melbourne today so not good for taking photos! Plus, I have to wait for the recipients to receive their card  before ruining their surprise.

The new Stampin’ Up! Occasions catalogue commenced on the 4th January! And I must say, when I first opened it there were some things that I HAD to have…. but also, there are a few things that I didn’t initially notice that I’m very pleased I ended up ordering.

So without further ado, my top 5 products from the new Occasions catalogue are:

1. Cool Treats Stamp Set (in fact the whole Cool Treats Suite), page 32 & 33 – this will come to no surprise to those who know me well! I love food stamps and in particular with this suite, I love the colours they have used; Crumb Cake, Pear Pizzaz, Peekaboo Peach, Pool Party and Watermelon Wonder. It is a great colourful, summery suite that will make great, bright cards and 3D projects – I do feel an ice-cream banner coming on!

2. Party Animal Designer Series Paper, page 5 – again, the colours have captured my attention! So vibrant and perfect for those hard to make male birthday cards!

Party Animal DSP

3. Mini Egg Cartons , page 18 – whoever came up with this idea is genius! These come in a natural cream colour so there is plenty of opportunity for you to be creative and style these cartons any which way you like! I can’t wait to get spritzing and add some colour to them! They also fit 4 Ferrero Rocher chocolates in the “egg” holes… a great gift for your chocolate loving friend (me!).

4. Everyday Hero Stamp Set, page 49 – I think having two young boys in my house makes me think of so many uses for this stamp set and the extra bonus is, they’ve included a female Superhero too (as they should!). I’ve had a play with this set already and made a super fun Magic Card which I can’t wait to show you!

5. Mini Paper Clips Combo Pack, page 15 – these may have slipped under your radar as they’re not a predominant picture in the catalogue but they make a great embellishment to any card or project and even better, if you have a planner and use it to keep yourself organised, then these will make your planner look nice and fancy!

And because it is such a gorgeous catalogue, I thought I’d give some “honourable mentions” to some of my other favourite products:

  1. Iconic Occasions – Hostess Stamp Set, page 3
  2. Star Blast Edgelits Dies, page 11
  3. Watercolour Pencils, page 24
  4. Celebrations Duo Textured Impressions Embossing Folders, page 40 (I bet you’ve missed these!)
  5. Perfect Mix Stamp Set, page 35 (awesome if you give lots of baked goods as presents)

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you’ve enjoyed my favourite products! Leave a comment below to let me know what products are tickling your fancy.

Let’s celebrate 2017!

Happy New Year and welcome to my first post on the new look INKreations website. I hope you like my fresh new look! There are still a few tweaks and graphics to come, but they will come over time as they are developed by my awesome web guy (Thanks Stuart!).

My first card to show is one that celebrates the New Year. Unfortunately, I didn’t get around to sending my team handmade Christmas cards, so I decided to make them a New Years card instead!

This card is a simple design which you can easily mass produce and replicate in different colours and patterns. I chose a neutral colour scheme using Crumb Cake, Whisper White and Basic Black cardstock so that my silver bling would stand out!

lets-celebrate-2017

I mass produced 22 of these and to make the process easier, I did each step at a time e.g. made all the card bases, then cut all the white & black cardstock, rounded the corners of the white etc. Then when all the pieces had been cut and embossed, it was just a matter of adhering them all together.

I hope you’ve had some time this New Year to get some of your crafting done. One of my goals this year is to post my creations more regularly and I’m hoping the brand new website might just encourage me to do so.

Happy Crafting!
