Heartfelt Sympathy – Watercolour Technique

Yes! I made it as promised… Wednesday afternoon and I’m back! Today I’m sharing a card which is never fun to make… a sympathy card. They’re not the type of card you have a lot of in your collection (well I don’t), and whenever the time comes that you need one, you don’t really feel like making one for obvious reasons. I loved the colour combination in the card I made for the Colour INKspiration challenge, that I thought I would use it again for this card.

I LOVE! the look of a “watercolour wash” but I could never get it the way I wanted until I found this awesome technique by Kim Williams. It is SO easy. We recently did it at one of my Stamp Clubs and the ladies loved it.

The best thing about a watercolour wash is no two cards will EVER be the same. This one depends how you “smoosh” in the technique.

I heat embossed my sentiment from the Heartfelt Sympathy stamp set using black embossing powder; this sentiment is beautiful yet simple which is perfect for a sad occasion.

Would LOVE it if you gave this watercolour wash technique a go. If you do… please please please, share you cards with me over on the INKreations Facebook Page by private message or email me at olivia@inkreations.com.au.

Happy Crafting!

What Will You Stamp? #117 – Beetles & Bugs

We’ve had a “bugging” good time this week for the What Will You Stamp? challenge (#wwys117) using the Beetles & Bugs stamp set from Stampin’ Up!

I myself have been under the weather with a “bug” (otherwise known as sinus, ear and chest infection!) so Mr. INK and I thought this was a good stamp set for me to be creating with this week. As I’ve been unwell, I haven’t been able to sit at my craft desk to create, so today I have some simple (yet cute!) cards for you using this set and some “bug puns”. Do you know how hard it is to create or find bug puns? I’ll tell you… HARD! I created my “puns” using the Labeler Alphabet and the Brushwork Alphabet stamp sets. I love the ‘look’ of the labeler set; and the fact you have 2 fonts in one set is a bonus!

I love little cards like my project today because you can make whatever size you like! All you need to do is ensure the length of the card is double the width… that way you’ll get a perfectly square card.

The card sizes I created were:

  • “I heard your caught a bug” card – 4″ x 8″ (scored at 3.5″)
  • “Love Bug” and “Bugs & Kisses” cards – 3″ x 6″ (scored at 3″)
  • “Sorry to bug you” card – 3.5″ x 7″ (scored at 3.5″)

Only a quick post from me today but don’t forget to check out all the What Will You Stamp? Design Team Beetle and Bug creations over on the WWYS? blog. There are lots of creepy crawlies waiting for you!

Happy Crafting,

What Will You Stamp? #115 – Beautiful You

Hi There! This week over at What Will You Stamp?, we’ve been challenged to use the very popular the “Beautiful You” stamp set. If you’re a Stampin’ Up! fan, I have no doubt you have seen many creations made with this stamp set throughout your googling or Pinterest looking ventures. There have been so many wonderful creations with the stamp set, I didn’t quite know where to start or what to create.

For some reason, the lady with the umbrella was the stamp in the set that caught my attention. Initially she made me feel like she was “sad” however, I also wanted to show how versatile stamps could be and used her to create a card and “shower her in love” (you’ll see what I mean shortly!).

I created 3 cards for today’s challenge to show you different ways you can use the same stamp. The cards have the same layouts, I’ve just created them in different colours and with different accompanying stamps to create a different tone or theme to the cards.

I love the simplicity of these cards. I did try colouring the lady in, but I found I much preferred her in plain black with the colour focus being on the theme of the card.

A quick post from me today for #wwys115; if you own the Beautiful You stamp set, why don’t you stop by the What Will You Stamp? Challenge Blog to see what the rest of the Design Team have created and participate in this week’s challenge yourself. We love to be inspired by you and your creations.

Thanks for stopping by today… I hope you like the cards I’ve created today… would love to hear if the rain, sunshine or heart one is your favourite.

Happy Crafting,

TGIF Challenge #91 – Love

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, this TGIF challenge (#tgifc91) was a great chance to get ahead on another card in my stash. Hubby and I don’t normally acknowledge Valentine’s Day but sometimes I like to mix it up and surprise him. Yes, he’s seen the card as I created it but he’ll forget about it by the time Valentine’s Day actually comes around.

The challenge inspiration was this cute little pic and if you click on the image below, it will take you to the challenge site and show you all the gorgeous creations the design team created to inspire us.

I decided to create my own DSP (again) for this challenge and then added a few layers to this card to give it plenty of texture and love (pun intended!). I love the combination of the 4 colours; Real Red, Melon Mambo, Blushing Bride and Smoky Slate.

I randomly stamped the heart stamp from the Endless Thanks stamp set it in Real Red, Melon Mambo and Blushing Bride on the whisper white cardstock. I then added the word “love” from the Thoughtful Banners stamp set in smoky slate to create my patterned background. I used the same “love” word to stamp on the Real Red circle in Real Red ink. I didn’t want this to take away from the background so by stamping in the same colour, it just adds a subtle layer to the card.

The “Love you much” stamp is from my new favourite stamp set in the Occasions catalogue, Iconic Occasions. It is such a versatile stamp set, I am using it on everything!

I finished off the card with some whisper white baker’s twine and some Real Red, Melon Mambo and Silver Glimmer hearts (this is a retired punch that I AGAIN can’t get rid off, just like the banner punch on this card).

Will you surprise a loved one this Valentine’s Day with a card? Or it doesn’t have to be on Valentine’s Day… a surprise card is fabulous any day of the year!

Happy Crafting,

P.S. One can only laugh too! I was so busy creating at my desk, I forgot to take the photos of the card before the challenge ended! Hence I missed the official challenge, but I still love my card. LOL!
