#tgifc117 – Summertime Blues

I’m so excited! Yesterday I had such a productive crafty day yesterday that I was able to participate in another card challenge this week. I’m playing along with the TGIF Challenge this week to cure the summertime blues for #tgifc117. The Design Team created some gorgeous creations to get you inspired, so why don’t you pop by the blog and join in!

For my project today I was inspired by the colours that the DT had used in their cards; the blues and the yellows caught my eye. The great thing about this challenge was for you to interpret it any way you see fit but try and get a little smidge of blue on your card. You might have been inspired by the watercolour wash background, the font, the embellishments or the actual word “summertime”. That’s why challenges are great, you can interpret it to suit your style!

I ummmed and ahhhhed so many times about getting the stamp set I’ve used today, but I finally bit the bullet and I’m so glad I did. I absolutely love using it.

I chose Night of Navy and Marina Mist for the blues on the card base and I mixed the embossing paste with a Marina Mist re-inker to create the blue clouds. Crushed Curry was the regal yellow tone I chose to use to watercolour the moon and a quick colour using the Calypso Coral watercolour pencil to give little mister’s skin a bit of colour.

I covered the stamped star with a small star punched out of gold glimmer paper to add some bling to the card. And a few more stars amongst the clouds to “twinkle”.

I’m enjoying using my Aqua Painter to colour at the moment whereas I used to be a Blender Pen kinda gal. I’m finding colouring quite therapeutic at the moment… a good chance for the brain to stop ticking for a little while.

Now… just to wait until a very special Little Mister joins us to receive this card.

Happy Crafting,

Global Design Project #093

Good Morning to you on this fresh Sunday morning in Melbourne! When I woke this morning it was -4.0 degrees! Winter has really hit us this weekend so I was excited to play along with the Global Design Project and use their bright, summery colour combination for #GDP093.

I’ve made a notecard for my project today using the gorgeous “Quirky Critters” stamp set from new annual Stampin’ Up! catalogue. At first it didn’t catch my eye but on my many looks through the catalogue I kept coming back to it and it hasn’t disappointed me yet!

For a self-proclaimed “non-colourer” this an interesting choice of stamp set, but funnily enough of late, I’m finding colouring very therapeutic and like anything, the more you do it, the more comfortable you become with it!

I chose to colour the bird on shimmery white cardstock using an Aqua Painter with Pool Party ink for his body and Lemon Lime Twist for his funky hair-do and chest. I really struggled to add the Berry Burst aspect to him but never fear, a small heart punch added the little bit I needed to make him pop! I punched the heart form the Cookie Cutter punch.

I can’t wait to use this set more and more! I’ve got so many ideas for it! If you’re looking for inspiration not just for this set, pop on over the to the Global Design Project page and see all the entries for the #GDP093 colour challenge. There is plenty there for you to see and be inspired by! I’m off to one of my team member’s catalogue launches now, can’t wait to be inspired there!

Colour INKspiration Challenge #001

I am so excited to bring you today’s blog post for numerous reasons:

  1. It means I have regularly blogged (within 10 days of my last post!)
  2. I have entered a challenge for this card
  3. I have used a stamp set I have had for 18 months and NEVER used
  4. I did colouring on my card and I am not a huge fan of colouring (purely because I’m not good at it!)
  5. I made a floral card!!!

WOW! That actually is a lot of reasons. lol!

My card today is an entry to the Colour Inspiration Challenge #001 which is a new Facebook group inspiring crafters each fortnight with a different colour challenge using Stampin’ Up! products. It has been loads of fun seeing everyone’s creations. There is so much talent out there and so many different ideas, it is a great place if you’re looking for inspiration. You don’t have to be a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator to join… you just have to use Stampin’ Up! products in your creations. Click here and request to join so you can see what everyone has been creating. You don’t need to participate in the challenges to be a part of the group.

This fortnight was the first official challenge of the group and there were 6 colours available (you must used 3) inspired by this picture to use in your project:

I chose to use 5 of the colours available; Blushing Bride, Mint Macaron, Sweet Sugarplum, So Saffron and Peekaboo Peach. I just couldn’t work Tempting Turquoise in to my card.

I used the Stampin’ Up! blender pens to “pick up” colour off the lid of my ink pads and then coloured the stamp, adding more ink to areas of the stamp that I wanted to be darker or deeper and then less ink on the areas such as the ends of the petals. I then added small pearl embellishments to the middle of some of the flowers to add some texture to the card. With the detail and number of flowers, I chose a simple sentiment to finish off the card and then mounted it on Mint Macaron and Blushing Bride cardstock.

This card is so not my usual style, but I thoroughly enjoyed creating it to participate in the challenge. It was great to get out of my comfort zone and create “just for fun”. I’m looking forward to the next challenge already!
